H&I Subcommittee Meeting (Hospitals & Institutions)

Hi Family,

I wanted to remind everyone we will hold our next subcommittee meeting Sunday, January 3rd at 3pm. The meeting link and information are below.

We are asking all subcommittee members to announce at both in-person and Zoom meetings that we need more support for these virtual H&I commitments. Members interested in joining our subcommittee and beginning to shadow on these commitments can contact Matt S or Brad H.

Trust Servant Positions: The Vice-Chairperson position is still open. We have tabled nominations for this position until January. If able, please consider nomination for this position and review the position description in the attached H&I Policy.

NAME OF FACILITY: CBCF (Men & Women)

There are currently no meetings going on in the facility. Non-essential staff returned to work at the facility on June 24. Our contact for recovery services at the facility has told us that she will reach out to us with information about the facility’s plans for allowing visitors in again when they have more information to offer.

NAME OF FACILITY: Correctional Reception Center (CRC – Men)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: Delaware County Jail (Men)

Literature and schedules are in the lobby for inmates to take with them when released. There are no meetings in the facility. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. Larry K will check with staff at facility to see if they need more pamphlets and schedules for the lobby for inmates to take when released.

NAME OF FACILITY: Dublin Springs

Dublin Springs has a Zoom account. Our H&I panel members are doing a forty-minute Zoom meeting on Tuesdays at the regular time. The facility joined our Virtual H&I meeting on Saturdays in May. Dublin Springs had previously expressed interest in holding in person meetings again but will not be doing so for the time being. Dublin Springs is attending zoom on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Saturday of the month

NAME OF FACILITY: FCCCI (Men) and FCCCII (Men and Women)

The panel leaders for FCCC1 and FCCCII were contacted by Franklin County Sheriff’s office and asked to restart H&I meeting using Zoom format. We have agreed to start and the first meeting will be held on Monday, October 19th for FCCCI and Wednesday, October 21st for FCCCII. Both will be held at 7pm. The meetings will be a panel format. The facilities have stated that only those members who were previously approved are eligible to participate in the zoom meetings. Fred has asked that the chair try to contact the women in order to schedule a women’s meeting for FCCCII. Fred has also upgraded his zoom account to accommodate this commitment.

NAME OF FACILITY: Franklin Medical Center (FMC-Men)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: London Correctional Institution (LOCI – Men)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: Madison Correctional Institution (MaCI – Men)

Chuck is still planning on taking literature to Madison as soon as we have inventoried what we have on hand and Diane Justus, Recovery Services Supervisor, inventories what they still have at the facility.

Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. When we have speaker tapes and CD’s available to provide to institutions, Chuck will notify her and arrange to get them to her.

NAME OF FACILITY: Maryhaven (Women)

Meeting is going well. On 5th weeks, Barcy uses a speaker to share. She has shared that spreadsheet incase anyone is interested in volunteering. This meeting could use regular or occasional volunteers. Please have any interested women reach out to Barcy C at 614-508-3487. Preferably once or twice a month unless just on occasion.

 NAME OF FACILITY: Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW)

NAME OF FACILITY: Parkside

Matt has been in contact with the facility. Literature and Virtual Schedules were delivered to the facility. Will not be participating in our Virtual H&I meetings.

NAME OF FACILITY: Pickaway Correctional Institution (PCI)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

Matt has been in contact with the facility. Literature and Virtual Schedules were delivered to the facility. The facility is not participating in Virtual Meetings at this time.

NAME OF FACILITY: Saturday Virtual Panel

We have regular weekly attendance from the three houses at MaryHaven Women’s Program and Dublin Springs. Dublin Springs and Columbus Springs East have not been joining us on the second Saturday of each month. We will no longer host the meeting on the second Saturday of the month. Panels in Need of More Panel Members When We Are Able to Go

Delaware County Jail (Women): Jenn M is helping to get women to apply and commit to get this commitment started again.

FCCCII – Workhouse (Women): Rona M needs women to commit to the 4th and 5th Saturdays of the month.

Madison Correctional Institution: Chuck M needs at least one more male to commit to the first Tuesday evening of the month. Brack G will be submitting an application.

Maryhaven Detox on South High St: New time, Friday at 6:00pm. Contact Brack G if interested in joining the panel.

MaryHaven Residential on Alum Creek: Brack G needs panel members for this commitment on Saturdays at 6:30pm.

Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW): This commitment on Monday evenings is in need of women to commit to the 1st, 4th and 5th Mondays of the month.

Recovery Village: Female panel members needed.

Columbus Springs East: New commitment, day and time not yet established. Contact Matt or Brad if interested.

Old Business

 Literature Order Distribution: Discussed literature distribution and current inventory. Matt S, Fred P, Chuck M, and Larry K all have literature. Need to evaluate our stock and consider our needs for 2021. ASC balance remained the same since October and H&I is pre-approved for $750. H&I will have a fundraiser early next year and ASC will hold the addithon this month..

2021 H&I Fundraiser:  Chuck M will reach out to Jacob R this month to discuss options. Subcommittee decided on a date of either Sunday, April 17th or Sunday, April 24th. Subcommittee still discussing whether to hold an auction or speaker event.

 Jail Zoom Updates: Zoom meetings began in October.  FCCI meets every Monday at 7 PM. FCCII men meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturday at 12 PM and FCCII Women meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturday at 12 PM. If there is a 5th Saturday it will be Men’s meeting. New this month is a Wednesday 1pm meeting at FCCCII.

 Trusted Servant Nominations: No new nominations. Please continue to announce that the subcommittee needs more members and possible nominations.

New Business

2nd Saturday Virtual H&I Meeting: Dublin Springs and Columbus Springs East have not been joining us on the second Saturday of each month. For this reason, we will not be hosting the meeting on the second Saturday of the month.

H&I slot for Addithon: The subcommittee is looking to participate in the addithon and considering December 24th at 5:30pm. Matt S, Fred P, John O, and Chuck M will be participating.

Virtual Do’s and Don’ts for H&I Policy : The subcommittee discussed if it is necessary to add virtual do’s and don’ts to the policy due certain actions taking place during meetings (eating, cooking, last names visible, inappropriate away screens, etc.) The subcommittee decided it was not necessary but asks that those acting inappropriately are messaged privately to address the issue.

NAWS Service Learning Webinar: NAWS will be holding a “Carrying the Message to Jails, Prisons, and Parolees” webinar on December 19th from 2 to 4pm. Please visit the area website for details.
