H&I Subcommittee Meeting (Hospitals & Institutions)

I wanted to remind everyone we will hold our next subcommittee meeting Sunday, March 7th at 3pm. The meeting link and information are below.

We are asking all subcommittee members to announce at both in-person and Zoom meetings that we need more support for these virtual H&I commitments. Members interested in joining our subcommittee and beginning to shadow on these commitments can contact Matt S or Brad H.

Trust Servant Positions: The Vice-Chairperson position has been accepted by Emily T. The Vice Literature Chair and Vice Secretary position are still open. We have tabled nominations for these positions until March. If able, please consider nomination for these positions and review the position description in the attached H&I Policy.

Panel Updates

NAME OF FACILITY: CBCF (Men & Women)

There are currently no H&I meetings going on in the facility. Meetings are being run by residents. Non-essential staff returned to work at the facility on June 24. Our contact for recovery services at the facility will reach out to us with information about the facility’s plans for allowing visitors in again when they have more information to offer.

NAME OF FACILITY: Correctional Reception Center (CRC – Men)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: Delaware County Jail (Men)

Literature and schedules are in the lobby for inmates to take with them when released. There are no meetings in the facility. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. Larry K will check with staff at the facility to see if they need more pamphlets and schedules for the lobby for inmates to take when released.

NAME OF FACILITY: Dublin Springs

Dublin Springs has a Zoom account. Our H&I panel members are doing a forty-minute Zoom meeting on Tuesdays at the regular time. The facility joined our Virtual H&I meeting on Saturdays in May. Dublin Springs had previously expressed interest in holding in person meetings again but will not be doing so for the time being. Dublin Springs is attending zoom on the 1^st, 3^rd, and 4^th Saturday of the month

NAME OF FACILITY: FCCCI (Men) and FCCCII (Men and Women)

Zoom meetings began in October.  FCCI meets every Monday at 7 PM. FCCII men meet on the 1^st and 3^rd Saturday at 12 PM. If there is a 5^th Saturday it will be a Men’s meeting. New this month is a Wednesday 1pm meeting at FCCCII Men. FCCCI is looking for anyone interested in speaking on Mondays at 7 PM. If interested, please contact Fred P. For FCCCII only those members who were previously approved are eligible to participate in the zoom meetings. Fred has asked that the chair try to contact the women in order to schedule a women’s meeting for FCCCII. Fred has also upgraded his zoom account to accommodate this commitment.

NAME OF FACILITY: Franklin Medical Center (FMC-Men)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: London Correctional Institution (LOCI – Men)

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: Madison Correctional Institution (MaCI – Men)

Chuck is planning to take literature to Madison now that we have received our literature order.

Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. When we have speaker tapes and CD’s available to provide to institutions, Chuck will notify the facility and arrange to get them to her.

NAME OF FACILITY: Maryhaven (Women)

Meeting is going well. On 5^th weeks, Barcy uses a speaker to share. She has shared that spreadsheet in case anyone is interested in volunteering. This meeting could use regular or occasional volunteers. Please have any interested women reach out to Barcy C at 614-508-3487. Preferably once or twice a month unless just on occasion.

Matt has been in contact with the facility. Literature and Virtual Schedules were delivered to the facility. Will not be participating in our Virtual H&I meetings.

Recovery Services staff returned to the facility on June 24. There are no meetings being held until further notice. Virtual meeting participation is not an option at this time. We are in the process of reviewing speaker tapes to send to ODRC Facilities.

NAME OF FACILITY: Recovery Works

Matt has been in contact with the facility. Literature and Virtual Schedules were delivered to the facility. The facility is not participating in Virtual Meetings at this time.

NAME OF FACILITY: Saturday Virtual Panel

Panel Leader: Chuck M (Saturdays at 6:30 p.m.)

We have regular weekly attendance from the three houses at MaryHaven Women’s Program, Columbus Springs East and Dublin Springs. We learned recently that Columbus Springs East and Dublin Springs have had another change to their programming on the second Saturday of the month. They will be attending every Saturday of the month again, beginning this month. Chuck had female speakers lined up for the second Saturdays of February, March and April. Will still have them speak on those nights.

Panels in Need of More Panel Members When We Are Able to Go Back In

Delaware County Jail (Women): Jenn M is helping to get women to apply and commit to get this commitment started again.

FCCCII – Workhouse (Women): Rona M needs women to commit to the 4^th and 5^th Saturdays of the month.

Madison Correctional Institution: Chuck M needs at least one more male to commit to the first Tuesday evening of the month. Brack G will be submitting an application.

Maryhaven Detox on South High St: New time, Friday at 6:00pm. Contact Brack G if interested in joining the panel.

MaryHaven Residential on Alum Creek: Brack G needs panel members for this commitment on Saturdays at 6:30pm.

Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW): This commitment on Monday evenings is in need of women to commit to the 1^st, 4^th and 5^th Mondays of the month.

Recovery Village: Female panel members needed.

Columbus Springs East: New commitment, day and time not yet established. Contact Matt or Brad if interested.

Old Business

Literature Order Distribution: Literature order has been received and is ready for distribution. Subcommittee members will speak this month and arrange distribution.

2021 H&I Fundraiser:  The subcommittee reviewed the flier put together by Matt S. and provided feedback and input. The subcommittee also reviewed the silent auction file that will be posted online listing items up for auction, prices, pictures, and all bid history. The best methods to receive auction bids, update auction file, distribute auction items to winners were discussed and will be finalized in March. Panel and format will also be finalized in March.

Trusted Servant Nominations: Emily T accepted the nomination for Vice Chair. The nominations for Vice Secretary, and Vice Literature Chair are still open. Nominations will be held in June 2021. Please continue to announce that the subcommittee needs more members and possible nominations.

New Business

Literature for Inmates at DOC: Central Ohio Area Narcotics Anonymous PR arranged an agreement between GTL, Ohio DOC, and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and NAWS. DOC inmates now have access, at no cost to inmates or the DOC, to the White Booklet, Behind the Walls, Staying Clean on the Outside, Self-Acceptance, and the Triangle of Self-Obsession.

Saturday Night Virtual H&I: John O will now be panel leader for the Saturday Night Virtual H&I meeting. Chuck M will still host and the meeting code and link will remain the same. Those interested in participating please reach out to John O as he will coordinate the meetings moving forward.
