Narcotics Anonymous is a worldwide, community-based fellowship of people for whom drugs had become a major problem. We offer a recovery program based on complete abstinence from all drugs, carried by addicts helping other addicts. NA is not affiliated with any outside organizations and does not provide professional services, counseling, or treatment.
NA works cooperatively with the community to help ensure that accurate information about our program is available to addicts who may be seeking recovery.
Connecting with Professionals & the Community
The Central Ohio Area of Narcotics Anonymous seeks to maintain open, respectful relationships with the community, including professionals, agencies, and organizations that may come into contact with addicts. Our goal is to provide clear information about what NA is—and what it is not—so individuals can decide for themselves whether NA may be helpful.
NA is:
- A voluntary, nonprofit fellowship of people for whom drugs had become a major problem
- Self-supporting through member contributions
- Based on anonymity, mutual support, and shared experience
- Open to anyone with a desire to stop using drugs
- Available to members of the public through “open” meetings (closed meetings are reserved for those who identify as addicts)
NA does not:
- Provide professional, medical, or treatment services
- Keep membership lists or attendance records
- Monitor, verify, or report an individual’s participation
- Accept outside funding or contributions from non-members
Resources for Professionals & the Community
Community members and professionals may find the following NA resources helpful:
- General information about Narcotics Anonymous and how meetings work
- Information about meeting availability in Central Ohio
- NA literature that explains our program and principles
- Guidance on how NA can complement, but not replace, other recovery-related services
These resources are intended to help professionals and community members better understand NA and share accurate information with those who may benefit.
Presentations & Information Requests
Members of the Central Ohio Area, including representatives from the Public Relations (PR) subcommittee, are available to provide informational presentations about Narcotics Anonymous. These presentations are appropriate for:
- Treatment and healthcare professionals
- Correctional and court-related settings
- Schools and universities
- Community organizations and agencies
- Employers or employee assistance programs
- Health fairs and conferences
While PR services help foster cooperation and understanding between Narcotics Anonymous and the community, the Hospitals & Institutions (H&I) subcommittee focuses on carrying the NA message to addicts who do not have access to outside meetings.
H&I panels are led by volunteer members of NA and are offered primarily to facilities with the greatest need, ensuring limited resources are used where they can have the most impact.
H&I Services include:
- Hospitals and detox centers
- Behavioral health facilities
- Treatment facilities
- Recovery programs
- Correctional facilities
